Israel Nuclear Strike on Iran
Israel has prepared secret plans to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against Iran.
Britian’s Sunday Times Newspaper claims that Israel has prepared secret plans to use their own weapons of mass destruction against Iran. The Sunday Times also claims that Israeli pilots have recently been flying to Gibralter as part of their training for the raid.
Sunday Times journalists Uzi Mahnaimi and Sarah Baxter write that the plans which were disclosed to them last week, are as a result of Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad) reports that Iran will have enough enriched uranium to produce nuclear weapons within two years.
Quoting what they describe as Israeli military sources Mahnaimi and Baxter further allege that the plans involve the use of conventional bombs to open up tunnels to the targets some of which are buried up to 70 feet below the ground.
The tunnels will then be used by tactical nuclear weapons programmed to explode deep underground, apparently to reduce the risk of nuclear fallout. Scientists estimate that contamination from such weapons of mass destruction could be limited but offer no guarantees and agree that tons of radioactive material would be released in the explosions.
Although Iran could retaliate by launching conventional ballistic missiles Israel believes they would hold back for fear of Israel responding with a second nuclear strike. However according to Reuters Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini has said that "any measure against Iran will not be left without a response and the invader will regret its act immediately."
Speaking of the Sunday Times report at a news conference he said that the report "will make clear to the world public opinion that the Zionist regime is the main menace to global peace and the region."
Iran’s retaliation does not have to be limited to firing ballistic missiles at its aggressor. They could launch attacks on Jewish targets around the world or take economic rather than military action. They could disrupt oil supplies by cutting production or by closing the Strait of Hormuz through which 20% of the world’s oil supplies are shipped.
That would have a serious effect on world oil prices and cause immense damage to western economies.
Irrespective of whatever response Iran makes any use of weapons of mass destruction by the only nuclear power in the Middle East will lead to widespread public protests and seriously destabilize the entire region.
