According to a Turkish Newspaper Robert Faurisson, a French Academic who visited the Middle East to participate in a Holocaust Conference in Iran may face a jail sentence
Zaman Newspaper reported France’s Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy as suggesting that Robert Faurisson could be tried for the comments he made at the Tehran Review of the Holocaust: Global Vision conference in December 2006. Robert Faurisson is French but was born in England of a Scottish mother and a French father. He is well known in France for denying that the Holocaust happened. Denying the Holocaust is an offence in many European countries. Faurisson was convicted of this offence five times in the past and has been banned from teaching in French universities as a result. He recently received a three months suspended prison sentence and a fine of €7,500 for “complicity in contesting the existence of a crime against humanity” over comments he made on Iranian television. Although the European Union, the United States and Israel all condemned the conference as “unacceptable” it was attended by 67 academics from some thirty countries. This number included several Orthodox Jewish Rabbi’s who are opposed to Zionism and object to Israel using the Holocaust to justify their treatment of the Palestinians.
