The controversial Arabic news network is now available throughout Europe and the Middle East including Israel and Palestine.

Yesterday I tuned in to the first broadcast of Al Jazeera English.

The controversial Arabic news network is now available throughout Europe and the Middle East and is being carried by the major cable providers in the UK, Italy, Israel and Germany

It failed to sign up distribution rights with the big US networks. Only GlobeCast, the subsidiary of a French company, is currently making it available. But this may change soon.

However this won’t stop Americans accessing the station. News is being streamed live on the Al Jazeera English Web site and is also available on terrestrial and mobiles phones.

With 60 news bureaus the station promises ‘unprecedented’ news coverage particularly in Israel and Palestine where five of them are based.

Managing Director Nigel Parsons said that Al Jazeera in English would ‘bring a new perspective and understanding to world events’.
