Qatar’s Mubarak Hassan Shami has won the Gold medal in the men’s marathon at the 15th Asian Games in Qatar today.

Qatar’s Mubarak Hassan Shami has won the Gold medal in the men’s marathon at the 15th Asian Games in Qatar today. Shami crossed the finishing line on Doha’s Corniche to clock a winning time of 2:12:44 for the 42.195 kilometre race.

Shami pulled away from the rest of the pack at the 25 kilometre mark to open up a 15 second lead that the others were unable to close. Khalid Kamal Taseen of Bahrain fought off a challenge from Japan’s Satoshi Osaki to take the Silver but only after a photo finish verified that he was just ahead as they both clocked 2:15:36.
