The very first golf course to be designed by Tiger Woods will be built in Dubai.
The World’s top golfer has just announced that work on the "The Tiger Woods - Dubai" is to start early next year. When completed in 2008 it will be a complex of 300 villas, a boutique hotel and the Al Ruwaya golf course which Tiger Woods will personally design.
Tiger Woods winner of the 2006 Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament said that he had chosen Dubai for his first course because he was excited by “the challenge of transforming a desert terrain into a world-class golf course."
The golf course is being built at ‘Dubailand’ a large tourism and leisure project situated along Emirates Road. Tiger Woods design company, Tiger Woods Design, is building the complex in partnership with Tatweer, a member of Dubai Holding.
The Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Executive Chairman of Dubai Holding, Mohammed Al Gergawi, said that the project reinforced the pace of development that was leading to Dubai becoming “one of the most recognized cities in the world."
The course will be a par 72 championship quality course of 7,700 yards with landscaping, water features and dramatic elevation changes. Mediterranean architecture, a state of the art clubhouse and a top-line gym are just a few of the features that will appeal to visitors. But it will be Tiger Wood’s detailed layout for each and every hole that will elevate it to world-class status.
