The British Guild of Travel Writers have Commended Wadi Feynan Eco Lodge, one of the nominations for their recent Best Overseas Tourism Project Award.
To be accepted as a nomination projects have to be of ‘social and economic benefit to the local community’, have management policies which minimize adverse environmental impact in matters such as waste, energy, water use and transport.’ They also need to ‘protect or harmonise with the cultural, built and natural environment.’
Wadi Feynan Eco Lodge hit all of these buttons. But competition was fierce and the big prize eluded them. Nevertheless the organizers were sufficiently impressed to award them a Commended Certificate. This will be presented later this month by David Symes of Jordan Tourism.
All nominations for this award are made by members of the British Guild of Travel Writers and here I have to declare an expression of interest. I was that member.
