I'm dying to see the film. I know a few people who've seen it and loved it. A friend of mine went to Kazakhstan a few years ago and had a wonderful time. I'm sure it will increase awareness of the country. After all, look what Ali G did for tourism in Staines!

Indeed and if people can be persuaded to go to Staines they can be persuaded to go to Kazakhstan or anywhere for that matter.
Before Borat most people were not even aware that there was a country called Kazakhstan.

Borat and Ali G are both wonderful creations. They show how powerful comedy can be, but are so funny too, unlike many of the comedians who try to make political points but forget the humour and end up ranting.

I think Borat and Ali G are characters you either like or dislike. My wife does not find either of them funny but our kids love them both.
Sacha Baron-Cohen makes me laugh but my own favourite character has to be Rab C. Nesbit.
Now how did he get into a discussion on Middle East Travel? We'll be talking about Mary Doll next 'By the way'.

I saw the film at a screening in September, when it was still around 2 and a half hours long. There is one particular scene - wresting is all I'll say - that is forever scarred on the inside of my eyelids. happy

That being said, on the way out of the theatre, I heard one guy say to another, "I hear Khazakstan is a real country, how about that!" ....So, what you said about no bad publicity? I'd agree.

A friend emailed me earlier today and said that he had overheard this in a bar in Glasgow at the weekend.
'They drink fermented horse urine in Kazakhstan.' Says this guy.
'Can't be any worse than what they're selling in here.' Replies his pal.
Then my friend swears they started talking about going their holidays to Kazakhstan next year.
It made me think about a news item I had read earlier in the day about a British lad jailed in Latvia for urinating in a public fountain.
Borat would love it.
