As a travel writer I love reading travel guides. Particularly if the guide is well written, as the Syria: Bradt Travel Guide looks to be. The guides are much more interesting when the writer knows the place intimately.

This one is particularly well written Fran. One of the great things about Bradt Guides is that the authors are not constrained to a formula or template. These one size fits all guides are fine but in Bradt Guides where the author gets as much space as they need to write the book and don't have to squeeze this writing into a preconceived template the resulting guide offers a lot more depth.

Yes, speaking as another guidebook writer, it can be frustrating when the format of the book dictates that every attraction is worth 200 words, or 400 words, or whatever.
