I read the 'Ancient Sands' blog with great interest ... it's good to see something new in this area, as there is a sort of 'been there; done that' ethos about the Nile valley.
Does the 'exclusive tour' of the Gizeh plateau mean freedom from the hawkers and touts? (I don't think they're a problem, but they do put many people off)
Definitely recommend the Gizeh plateau sound and light show ... although, for my money, THE best is the one at Philae. But, with all S&L shows, you need to check that the one on the day you decide to attend will be presented in a language you can understand.
Cheers!

What I'd really welcome is something different to see. There are, I'm told, plenty of other sites than the better-known ones, but they aren't open to the public yet.

That's always the thing about organised tours. They tend to go to the places that are already well known. I like to get off the beaten track and do my own thing so tend to avoid tours. This one appeals to me because the author will be there to answer questions.
